Who Am I?

I am Tami Dickerson, a long-time wife and mother whose interest in natural health led me to become a Master Herbalist (M.H.). My interest in natural health and healing began during my pre-teen years when my parents became regular shoppers at a local health food store that also sold bulk herbs. During these years my mother taught me her philosophy that supporting one's natural ability to heal is the primary piece in keeping healthy and sound. This philosophy has always made sense to me, so when I became a young adult living on my own I continued to use what I learned from her. Over time I realized that, although natural medicine is my preferred choice, conventional medicine also has its place alongside it. I saw that, although natural methods have less side effects and increase the chances of eliminating issues which cause symptoms, conventional medicine is preferred when treating acute, severe, or emergent health issues. Therefore it is my firm belief that natural healing methods and conventional medicine can work together to promote better health and well-being.

What is my educational background?

I am a Master Herbalist (M.H.) graduate from the Natural Healing College of Sacramento, California; I also hold certifications in Family Herbalism and Foundations in Holistic Science. The Natural Healing College is accredited by the American Council of Holistic Medicine, the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, and the American Naturopathic Certification Board. The college is also accredited with the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating.

Some have asked me "What does a Master Herbalist study?" Keeping in mind that there are variations with curriculums between different holistic schools, my classwork included: Foundations of Holistic Science (an overview of all the holistic disciplines), Anatomy & Physiology, Essentials of Herbal Medicine, Natural Alternatives to Allopathic Medicine, Creating Herbal Medicines, Herb-Drug-Vitamin interactions, and Therapeutic Theory and Practice.

Do I have any past medical experience?

Before I became a Master Herbalist I worked fourteen years as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Patient Care Technician in local hospitals and adult homes. This experience not only taught me how to take care of innummerable health conditions, but also how to relate to the patients and give them what they need emotionally and spiritually. Not only did I learn how to take care of a variety of illnesses and conditions but I also received the bonus of being exposed to the rich diversity of cultures, religions, and lifestyles of the patients, giving me a better understanding of the world around us.

Looking back, during this time the patients who really struck a chord with me were those who were diagnosed with cancer. I witnessed how cancer can strike anyone regardless of social class, race, age, religion, gender, or lifestyle, and how destructive it can be to a person's life and family. It kept bringing me back to the experiences I had with people close to me who battled different forms of cancer and how powerless I felt because I didn't have a clue how to help them. As a result, once I earned my holistic titles I decided I wanted to help cancer patients beat the disease and restore their lives.

What is my mission?

My mission is to help you develop a holistic health plan, using scientifically proven methods, to strengthen and support your conventional cancer treatments. My goal is to boost the effectiveness of your treatments with evidence-base methods, improve your quality of life, and reduce the severity of side effects commonly experienced with cancer therapies.
